FITNESS

For You and Your Developing Baby . . .

Along with massage, one of the best ways to support a successful, comfortable pregnancy is by keeping fit--it benefits both you and your baby!

Over 30 years of studies by James Clapp, MD, an international authority of exercise during pregnancy, have put to rest fears that exercise is harmful to pregnancy.  On the contrary, regular, structured, moderate-intensity exercise (30-40 minutes, 3-4 times/week) has been shown to support full-term babies, shorter labors, healthier babies, and happier moms.

Childbearing is a natural, normal event, but definitely challenges your body during its process.  Being strong helps support all the structural changes happening with your body, that although normal can cause much pain and discomfort.  Staying stretched and flexible helps maintain good posture and keeps you relaxed.  Regular, structured exercise can help both you and your baby:
  • Avoid excessive weight gain
  • Enhance stamina and strength, both of which can aid in a shorter, easier labor
  • Encourage normal digestion
  • Strengthen cardiovascular health
  • Increase ability to handle everyday stresses with less stress
  • Promote better sleep and eating habits
Whether you experience a hospital or home birth, drug free or with epidural anesthesia, vaginal or cesarean delivery, being fit will increase chances of a calmer birth and smoother recovery.

RATES:
My fitness instruction gives you an opportunity to exercise correctly throughout your pregnancy and according to your current fitness level.   Sessions include strength, posture, flexibility and endurance training.  As due dates draw near, exercises and movements for labor will be highlighted.  We will also explore techniques that can be started almost immediately after your birth experience (whether vaginal or cesarean) to support postpartum recovery.

For Your Newborn . . .

After delivery, your newborn can start rockin' and rollin', too!   Motor skills help your baby's brain and body grow and develop in that busy first year.  There are no set routines to memorize; only simple, fun movements and activities--including the all-important "tummy time"-- that you can combine to create an entertaining, interactive time for you and your baby.

RATES:
My movement teaching session lasts about an hour; slightly longer with a group of babies and parents.
**Private session is $30 and includes infant massage techniques.  **Small group (2-4 families) is $20/family.
